nav-onboard
Interactive, hands-on onboarding that teaches Navigator by having you complete real tasks rather than read documentation.
Triggers
Natural-language phrases that auto-invoke the skill:
- “onboard me”
- “teach me Navigator”
- “how do I use Navigator”
- “Navigator tutorial”
- “learn Navigator”
- “new to Navigator”
- “what skills should I use”
What it does
- Checks whether you already completed onboarding for this repo and offers to re-run or just view your workflow guide. If the project ships its own setup skill, it points you there first.
- Analyzes the project to detect type (frontend/backend/fullstack), frameworks, database, and testing tools, then recommends a skill set.
- Offers two paths: Quick Start (~15 min, 4 essential skills) or Full Education (~45 min, philosophy plus all relevant skills).
- Walks you through each skill as a real task (nav-start, nav-marker, nav-task, nav-sop, nav-compact, plus stack-specific dev skills), validating that files were actually created.
- Tracks progress in
PROGRESS.mdand persists it across sessions. - Generates
MY-WORKFLOW.md— a personalized workflow, daily checklist, and skill-trigger quick reference. - Since v7.8.0 all of this state is per person and per repo, stored under
~/.config/navigator/onboarding/<repo-id>/(NAVIGATOR_ONBOARDING_HOMEoverrides the base), never inside the repository — so one contributor finishing onboarding no longer makes everyone else’s run skip, and no personal files land in git.
Example
"Onboard me to Navigator"You pick Quick Start or Full Education, run each skill against your own project, and finish with a personalized workflow guide and a completion marker.
